Designation of Brampton under the French Language Services Act: what it means for youAs of January 1, 2007 the City of Brampton is now designated under the French Language Services Act. In practical terms, this means that as a resident of Brampton, you can now receive services in French in local offices of the Government of Ontario. The French Language Services Act came into effect in November 1989. It guarantees access to services in French from the Government of Ontario in central offices of the government, as well as in offices located in or serving the designated areas of the province. Designated areas are those with a significant Francophone population. According to the 2001 Census, there are 5,280 Francophones in Brampton. Please visit the Office of Francophone Affairs' website at www.ofa.gov.on.ca for more information on the designated areas. We encourage you to use the French-language services offered by the Government of Ontario in Brampton!
