Francophones in Ontario

May 2006

Dear Friends:

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the French Language Services Act – a milestone in the history of Francophones in Ontario and a timely opportunity to highlight outstanding contributions to the province's Francophonie.

To celebrate this important anniversary, the government has created a special recognition program, the Ontario Francophonie Awards, to honour those citizens who, through their conviction, determination and hard work, have recently played a key role in fostering a stronger Francophone community in Ontario.

The Ontario Francophonie Awards will honour a Francophone and a Francophile for their achievements and their unique contribution to the development and the vitality of Ontario's Francophonie.

On behalf of the provincial government, I am pleased to invite you to participate in this Ontario Francophonie Awards Program by nominating a deserving Francophone or Francophile before the deadline of June 30, 2006. Award recipients will be recognized at a special ceremony hosted by the government of Ontario on November 20, 2006 in Ottawa.

If you require any further information, please contact the Ontario Honours and Awards Secretariat at 416-314-7529.

I thank you in advance for taking the time to participate through this initiative in the government's celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the French Language Services Act.

Sincerely,

Madeleine Meilleur
Minister
