The Government of Ontario created in 2006 the Ontario Francophonie Awards, a special recognition program to honour those citizens who, through their conviction, determination and generosity, have made progress possible and played a key role in fostering a stronger Francophone community in Ontario.
Presented for the first time in November 2006, the Ontario Francophonie Awards honour Francophones and those who are not Francophones but promote the French language and culture (Francophiles), who have recently made an outstanding contribution to the political, social, economic and cultural vitality and well-being of Ontario's Francophone community.
