20th anniversary of the French Language Services Act

A New Visual Platform to Showcase Francophone Affairs

The 20th anniversary of the French Language Services Act is a unique opportunity to honour all those who have contributed to the development of the French presence in Ontario and to the strengthening of Franco-Ontarian communities.

As important as it is to celebrate past and recent progress, it is also crucial and essential to look to the future. After all, the builders of French Ontario shared and continue to share this vision. Their efforts are making it possible to constantly reach new horizons and push back the limits of the Francophonie in Ontario.

On the occasion of this momentous and symbolic anniversary, the Office of Francophone Affairs (OFA) has adopted a new visual platform to promote the role its plays as a catalyst to bring people together and thereby support full participation by Francophones in the development of Ontario society.

The OFA's new visual platform is intended to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Act and highlight the OFA's commitment to the French fact in Ontario through a renewed, positive and modern approach that is resolutely turned to the future.

After thorough reflection on its role as a catalyst, the symbolism of the 20th anniversary, and the importance of the French language and culture in Ontario, the OFA has chosen an "inspirational" signature line and graphic design.

Destined to appear alongside the logo of the Office of Francophone Affairs as part of the visual identity established by the Government of Ontario, this visual platform makes reference to the following evocative concepts and messages:

Signature line

The signature line Accent on the future refers to the great emphasis that the Government of Ontario and the OFA put on Francophone affairs.

It underlines the fact that the 20th anniversary celebrations are the starting point for even greater advancements in the future. Although it echoes the everyday expression To put the accent on the future , the shorter and more direct version acquires a powerful and distinctive appeal by going right to the heart of the matter.

Accent on the future also focuses on the future developments to be achieved and new challenges to be met to secure the long-term future of French Ontario.

The use of the word "accent" is a nod to the French language – to its subtlety and charming complexity and to its distinct "sound" with its Franco-Ontarian, regional and international influences that convey an immense cultural heritage.

Graphic design

The full development of the potential of the Francophonie in Ontario is reflected in the horizon to be reached and the ever-changing path, which make it possible to continue pushing back the limits of French Ontario.

This process is symbolized by a series of spotlights that suggest the concept of "being in the limelight" and represent the progress to be made, the various challenges to be met, and the diversity that characterizes the Franco-Ontarian community.

The first beam highlights the 20th anniversary of the Act by placing it in the foreground. This position also makes reference to the future by demonstrating that, while we are celebrating past and recent advancements, we are also firmly focused on making the French fact an integral part of Ontario's future.

While linking to the past, the colours have been refreshed and renewed. The overall impression is warm, to reflect the character and "joie de vivre" of Franco-Ontarians. The blue is in continuity with the traditional OFA colour, but with a resolutely more modern and updated hue. Yellow, which has often been a secondary colour for OFA, is recalled in a fine but bright line on the left hand side. Finally, the graduated green in the vertical band echoes the colour of the Franco-Ontarian flag.
