News Release

A delegation of teachers from Amiens, France is visiting Ontario to talk about the use of new information technologies to improve student achievement in mathematics, reading, and writing.
The visit is part of a pilot project called CAPTER (Professional Learning Community–Technology, Expertise, Resources).
This pilot project will pair teams of mathematics and French teachers at Franco-Ontarian schools in Toronto and Aurora with their counterparts at two schools in Amiens. The teachers will be trained simultaneously in the use of new technologies to teach their respective school subjects.
The teachers on either side of the Atlantic will be in touch through a series of face-to-face meetings and via virtual meetings using videoconferencing, teleconferencing, email, and the Internet.
"CAPTER is an ambitious project in terms of the scope of its objectives. It will bring young Francophones from different parts of the world together," stated Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.
"The CAPTER project focuses primarily on students' needs. It is one of many initiatives by our government to improve the achievement of Ontario students in literacy and numeracy," stated Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education.
